Eco-Friendly New Years resolutions!

There's many simple things we can do to have a positive impact on the environment so we decided to create a short list with some of these ideas!

Buy less

A simple way to minimize the negative environmental impact we can have as individuals is by generally consuming less; that can be anything from clothes you may not need or food you do not eat. This study from the UK suggests that 4.5m tonnes of food is wasted each year. To put it simply, we consume too much and

Eat plant-based.

There's many reasons why plant-based diets are generally more eco-friendly than a diet full of animal products. January is often considered to be the best time to change a habit, so why not try Veganuary this month and see how you feel! Not only is a plant-based diet better for the environment, but also for animals and your health. Here are a few highlights of why eating plant-based food is good for the environment;

1. One pound of beef requires anywhere between 2000 and 8,000 gallons of water to produce. It takes around 1,000 gallons of water to product one gallon of milk!

2. Almost a third of arable land is used for animal agriculture, which is a leading cause of species extinction and habitat destruction. For example, studies show that up to 80% of the destruction is due to animal agriculture.

3. Animal agriculture is a leading cause of water pollution and ocean dead zones.

Recycle

Waste is a big environmental issue globally. Instead of buying a brand new camera or jumper, why not try buying it second hand first? It can also save you a lot of money and is better for the planet. This also includes aiming to minimize single use plastic such as plastic bags and bottles. It may be challenging, depending on where you’re located but it’s important we try our best to reduce, reuse and recycle.
